82 hippos killed by anthrax outbreak
Within about seven weeks the number of hippos that have died of anthrax has tripled. The latest figures show that about 82 hippos have died of the disease.
The first deaths, of about 27 animals, were reported at the beginning of June. The new death toll was revealed yesterday at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, as the government declared an anthrax outbreak in the country. Addressing journalists, Nicholas Kauta, a commissioner in the department of livestock, health and entomology, said the most affected areas are those surrounding Kazinga Channel, Lake Edward and Lake George
