Safeguarding Policies and Human Rights

Our Commitment

Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF) is committed to operating responsibly, ethically and transparently.

We comply with applicable laws and regulations and expect our staff, representatives and those working on behalf of UCF to conduct themselves appropriately and refrain from illegal, dishonest or unethical conduct.

Our governance policies and procedures provide a framework for responsible and accountable operations. They guide our employees, partners and stakeholders, reinforce our organisational values and support transparency, efficiency and compliance with applicable regulatory standards.

Safeguarding

UCF is committed to maintaining a safe environment for our staff, partners, stakeholders and those with whom we work.

We have safeguarding policies in place to minimise the risk of abuse, mistreatment, exploitation and misconduct. Our governance and policy framework covers areas including:

Human rights and equality

Abuse and exploitation, including sexual abuse and exploitation

Child safeguarding

Health, safety and the environment

Anti-fraud and corruption

Conflicts of interest

Finance and human resources

All UCF staff are expected to comply with our policies and follow the UCF Code of Conduct, which sets out the core principles and behaviours expected of staff and those contracted by the organisation.

Human Rights and Equality

Human rights and equality form part of UCF's wider governance and safeguarding framework.

Through our policies, procedures and Code of Conduct, we seek to promote appropriate conduct and reduce the risk of abuse, exploitation, mistreatment and misconduct.

We recognise that good governance does not end with policy introduction and implementation. It is an evolving process requiring continued review, validation, guidance, training and effective grievance and complaints mechanisms, and ensuring that our systems are fit for purpose in our environment.

Treat grievances and concerns seriously and respect confidentiality

Investigate allegations in a timely manner and address reported cases of alleged abuse, misconduct or wrongdoing thoroughly and with due process

Involve external agencies and other appropriate parties where required

Provide necessary support mechanisms and engage appropriately qualified professionals where required

UCF encourages anyone with a concern or grievance, or anyone who becomes aware of potential misconduct by UCF staff or an associated party, to report it so that the matter can be addressed as quickly, fairly and effectively as possible.
